The Boatshed

The Star Boating Club was formed in 1856 and is possibly one of the oldest rowing clubs in New Zealand. William Chatfield, the Thorndon Village Architect, designed the present boating club building in 1885. As the club had already had previous moves due to reclamation Chatfield designed the boat shed on iron rails. In 1889 it was towed away from impending reclamation by a steam engine to it's resting place at 51 Jervois Quay.
